Volunteer-led Furloughed Foodies is to deliver around 4,000 meals to vulnerable families over the Christmas period.
The organisation, made up of furloughed volunteers who cook and deliver meals, will distribute festive food parcels to vulnerable families, children on free school meals, homeless people, those living in care and elderly people who have lost their partner this year.
The packages will be made up of Christmas-themed fruit and vegetables for cooking at home, along with a range of hot meals.
Furloughed Foodies has partnered with charities The West London Zone, Smart London, Age UK and The Dalgarno Trust to identify the 4,000 households receiving a food parcel.
They are to be delivered between 21 and 23 December.
Furloughed Foodies was formed in March when the UK’s first national lockdown came into effect.
During the summer the organisation cooked and handed out over 30,000 healthy meals for NHS workers at hospitals across London.
“I wish we could do more, but it has been much harder to manage now [as] many of our volunteers have gone back to full-time employment,” said Furloughed Foodies co-founder Chloe Hall.
”Thankfully we have an amazing team who help organise volunteers, and do it all alongside their full-time jobs.”
