Barbara Gallani is to replace Helen Munday as the Food and Drink Federation's director of food safety and science.
Gallani is currently an FDF manager with responsibility for public affairs and the biscuit, cake, chocolate and confectionery sector group.
In this role Gallani oversaw the integration of the group into the FDF at the beginning of last year.
She also represented the organisation on regulatory issues such as food safety, employment and the environment .
Gallani said the combination of this and her work in the biscuit sector would stand her in good stead as she drove the FDF's agenda food safety agenda both in Europe and at home.
Before joining FDF, Gallani worked for a wide range of organisations including the FSA, the European Commission, the BRC and BEUC, the European consumers' organisation. "All of FDF's work is underpinned by science and evidence and so this a key role for the organisation," said FDF director general Melanie Leech. "Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role and I am delighted to welcome her as part of the senior management team."
Munday is leaving in December to become director of scientific and regulatory affairs at Coca-Cola Great Britain.
Martin Turton will replace Gallani on the BCCC sector group. He is currently the manager of the FDF's member services team.
The federation is also currently looking for a new parliamentary affairs manager.
