General Mills has pledged to source 100% of the eggs it uses in its products worldwide from cage-free hens by 2025.
The US food giant announced it would extend a similar commitment made in 2015 for the Canada and US markets to its global supply chain.
“Eggs are an important ingredient in many of our products, and we strive to ensure that the hens laying these eggs are treated humanely,” the supplier said. Its pledge follows similar commitments by PepsiCo, Unilever and all the main UK supermarkets.
“General Mills’ announcement will hopefully influence other global players,” said David Coman-Hidy, executive director of NGO The Humane League.
