Anthony Thompson, the managing director of George at Asda, has quit the supermarket to join clothing retailer Fat Face.
Thompson joined Asda’s clothing label three years ago from Marks & Spencer.
“Anthony arrived here in 2007 with a clear vision to get George firing on all cylinders, after a period that could be best described as somewhat ordinary,” Asda chief executive Andy Bond said in a note to staff.
“But what he was able to do was make the business extraordinary again.”
Last year George became officially the UK’s largest clothing brand – 18 months ahead of the retailer’s own target – driven largely by growth in womenswear and school uniforms.
