Defra secretary of state George Eustice sent a message of gratitude for the food and drink industry during the annual Grocer Gold Awards on Friday (13 November).
Eustice said that although Covid-19 had created “massive challenges” across the food sector, he wanted to commend the industry for their response to the events.
“We’ve seen this year which parts of the economy and which jobs really do matter,” said Eustice.
“It’s absolutely clear those working in the food industry are key workers and you’ve all played an essential role in tackling this terrible challenge that we all face.”
The address was made during the Grocer Gold Awards ceremony where the best of the industry and their achievements were honoured and celebrated.
Gongs like Britain’s Favourite Supermarket, Brand of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year were awarded during the virtual ceremony, which you can now watch on demand.
