German frozen fish company Greenland Seafood is eyeing further inroads into the UK retail market with the launch of premium lines.
The Aldi supplier will unveil new lines of meunière and vegetable-topped pollock at the Seafood Expo Global in Brussels later this month, with products available to retailers UK from June.
Greenland is proposing retailers sell the pollock ranges under their own label brands, with a recommended price of around £2.60/400g.
Tomato & oregano, rosemary & black pepper, seeded crust, salt & pepper, and lemon & pepper variants will be added to Greenlad’s range of meunière-style coated pollock fillets in the UK, while new additions to its vegetable range will comprise pollock fillets topped with kale, savoy cabbage or pumpkin, tomato & ginger sauces.
Products in the meunière range will be MSC-certified, while the vegetable range offers both MSC and non-MSC fillets.
The launches responded to consumer demand for products to undergo minimal processing and use responsible, sustainable fishing, said Greenland head of marketing for Europe Emmanuelle Jehan.
“For the past few years, traditional vegetables have been back in vogue. And while trends come and go, traditional vegetables and old-fashioned varieties are currently providing an authentic taste that is proving very popular,” he added.
Greenland owns brands SeaSide, Mare Fino and Your Fish, with products processed at two sites in northern coastal regions of Germany and France. The brand also sells via wholesalers including Brakes and Mostell Seafood.
