Ginsters says its new range of pork pies will breathe life into the declining category.
The range will be available from next month in snacking, sharing and lunchbox packs, ranging from £1.49 for a 100g two-pie mini pack to £2.50 for a 300g snack-pack of four smaller pies.
As well as a traditional 300g pie, a ploughman’s version containing pork, Red Leicester cheese and pickle will also be available in the 300g size.
All the pies are made with 100% British pork and contain no added colours or flavourings.
The range would help “reinvigorate” sales of the pork pie category, which were down 2.2% to £130.9m [TNS 52w/e 19 April 2009], said Andy Valentine, head of brand marketing.
“Research has highlighted that the perfect pork pie should be well seasoned, contain fresh British pork and have firm and crunchy pastry – characteristics we have addressed with our new pies,” he said.
