Glasgow-based Girish’s Premier picked up the top award in the industry by winning Convenience Retailer of the Year at The Convenience Awards 2025.
Held at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester at a ceremony hosted by broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the top store award went to Girish’s Premier. Run by Girish Jeeva, the store also won Independent Store of the Year.
The judging panel of independent retail experts praised Jeeva for his perseverance and willingness to innovate while keeping the shopper experience a priority.
The Convenience Awards 2025 are powered by Convenience Store, Lumina Intelligence and The Grocer. Convenience Store editor Aidan Fortune said: “The quality of entries for this year’s awards was extremely high and it made it incredibly difficult for our judging panel to decide on category winners. The work that Girish has put into his business has been outstanding – he’s successfully balanced embracing technology and innovation while keeping prices affordable for his customer base.
“At a time when there is so much working against retailers, it’s inspiring to see how many are striving forward and growing their businesses. A massive congratulations to all of our finalists and winners.”
Other winners on the night included Sophie Nightingale of Costcutter Epsom, who won Convenience Rising Star of the Year while Pauline Flanagan of Spar Malone Road picked up Sales Colleague of the Year.
The Convenience Awards 2025 saw a change in format this year, with the Retailers’ Retailer category being decided by retailer attendees to the awards. This was won by Julie Kaur of Premier Jules in Telford.
Research category award winners were also unveiled. These are the only awards in the sector that use data sourced from Lumina Intelligence’s Convenience Tracking Programme, which tracks shopper behaviour continuously throughout the year. Britain’s Favourite Convenience Symbol Group and Britain’s Favourite Convenience Store Group was won by Premier, while Retailer’s Favourite Symbol Group was won by Go Local.
The Convenience Awards 2025 is kindly sponsored by Allwyn, Bestway Retail, Booker Retail Partners, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Morrisons, Nestlé, One Stop, Rockstar, Rollover, Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I and Warburtons, with Diageo and Mondelēz International as activation sponsors.
