In the month Global Brands announced its swoop for Inspirit Brands, the VK owner has branched out again with the launch of a small wine division.
The company will distribute Adoro Wines from South Africa and Marilyn Merlot, a single-vineyard wine from Bordeaux. The wines have premium price points (£13.45 to £19.29) and will target specialists and independents.
Marilyn Merlot a play on the name Marilyn Monroe was a "modern" Bordeaux with labels printed in English to lure new consumers to Old World wines, said Richard Wilson, head of wine development.
Adoro's three-strong range is made with grapes from across South Africa and blended at the Adoro winery in Stellenbosch.
"This is a new approach," said Global Brands' Derek Mackey. "I'm keen to build our profile in the off-trade."
