Gousto Box 2024 (2)

Recipe kit brand Gousto is expanding into the Republic of Ireland, with the launch of gousto.ie.

The brand will offer more than 150 monthly recipes “tailored to Irish tastes” and has vowed to offer more choice and a lower price point than other local recipe box providers.

The company said it had prioritised working with Irish suppliers to “ensure high-quality, sustainable ingredients and support local businesses”. On launch, more than a third of ingredients would be sourced from the island of Ireland, including beef and chicken (reared and packed in Northern Ireland), and locally sourced liquid dairy.

In addition to supporting the Irish economy, local sourcing has the added benefit of helping to mitigate the additional costs, port delays and customs checks imposed by new post-Brexit rules, which particularly affected perishable produce, Gousto said.

The new operation would create 30 jobs this year, Gousto said, “with potential for many more with scale”. The new jobs will include roles in management, marketing, food, supply chain and fulfilment.

Orders will be fulfilled within Ireland for “maximum freshness and efficiency”, and the company will work with local partner Bond Freeze, as well as DPD for delivery.

“Our research reveals Irish consumers are highly engaged in health but until now this has not been reflected in dinner choices across the country,” said Gousto founder and CEO Timo Boldt. “We aim to fill this gap in the market, with an inspiring range of nutritious, fresh, home-cooked recipes, which make healthy eating simple.”

Gousto expanded outside Britain for the first time in June by taking its offering to Northern Ireland. Those orders are picked, packed and delivered from its Warrington fulfilment centre.

“Launching into the Republic of Ireland was the natural next step following our successful expansion into Northern Ireland,” Boldt said. “We will deliver to the nation’s 1.8 million households an unrivalled recipe choice, expanding their cooking repertoire with simple to create dishes from around the world, exceptional value, combined with the convenience to make cooking from scratch the obvious choice, all backed up by local fulfilment and local sourcing.”
