Grampian Country Food Group is trialling a cooked chicken on a stick product in a bid to grow the meat snacking category.
Grabits, which are being tested in selected Total and BP service stations, have been developed as a healthier alternative to traditional snacking fare such as sausage rolls, Cornish pasties and Scotch eggs. They contain less than 3% fat.
Made from 100% chicken breast meat, the 75g snacks (rsp: £1.49) come in Original and Nice & Spicy variants and are aimed predominantly at men. They are packaged in foil wrap for strong shelf standout, said Grampian.
If successful, Grabits will launch in the sandwich chillers in convenience stores from February next year and in the multiples from May. Poultry snacks already launched this year include Mattessons chicken Fridge Raiders and Snakstix from PPM foods.
Press advertising and an extensive sampling campaign is planned for the new year.
