The Scottish dairy supplier’s sales of protein-based dairy products now make up more than 25% of its total sales

Graham’s The Family Dairy has expanded its protein lineup with the addition of a first ice cream and a new cottage cheese.

The supplier’s NPD is being rolled out now to 112 Lidl stores in Scotland.

The ice cream packs 10g of natural dairy protein per 100g serving and is available in Vanilla, Salted Caramel and Double Chocolate flavours in 500ml tubs. Each serving contains under 170 calories and is one of the only ice cream products in the UK to use natural dairy protein, as opposed to plant-based and powder forms, Graham’s claimed.

The Scottish dairy company’s Protein Cottage Cheese, meanwhile, contains 30g of protein in every 200g pot and comes in a Natural flavour variant.

The new line is aiming to tap into the social media-boosted renaissance in demand for cottage cheese, and will look to build on the success of Graham’s traditional product – sales of which have grown by 40% in volume terms over the past year.

The addition of the two new products further bolstered the offering of Graham’s Protein range – which includes protein pouches and ‘confectionery pots’ – and overtook sales of its conventional milk in major supermarkets last year.

The range now equates to more than 25% of the family-owned supplier’s total sales.

“As protein proves increasingly important in our diets, we’ve been hoping to create an ice cream product which can be an indulgent treat that also supports a healthy lifestyle,” said Graham’s MD Robert Graham.

The Protein Cottage Cheese was created on the back of “crazy demand in our traditional cottage cheese product”, he added, with consumers increasingly calling for “high-protein foods that aren’t ultra-processed, and we’ve seen that demand across our protein range”.

On top of its NPD, Lidl is also introducing Graham’s kefir drinks to a further 220 stores UK-wide, alongside a similar extension in availability of its Protein 25g Yoghurt Drinks.

This expansion to the existing listing was in response to “soaring consumer demand for ‘on-the-go’ protein products and gut health-boosting products to play part of a rounded diet”, it said.
