Scottish dairy company Graham’s is muscling into the branded Cheddar market with the launch of a three-strong range.
To date, Graham’s The Family Dairy has sold branded milk, and block and spreadable butter, but it has now ear-marked a six-figure investment to support the launch – the family’s first entry into Cheddar in its 74-year history.
The mild red, mature white and extra mature white Cheddars hit selected Scottish Dobbies garden centres on Monday (17 June) and will go into other indies, including Margiotta, from Friday (21 June).
The brand will go into Sainsbury’s next month, Spar in August, over 50 Asda stores in October and Tesco from mid-October.
Graham’s was always looking to extend its product offering to retail customers and consumers who had continually requested cheese, said Dr Robert Graham, chairman of Graham’s The Family Dairy (pictured, left). “We felt there was a real gap in the category for a quality Scottish Cheddar cheese and have spent considerable time researching the market.”
The Cheddar is currently being manufactured by a third party but Graham’s plans to eventually transfer production to its Airthrey Kerse Farm in Bridge of Allan.
Graham’s had worked with an experienced cheese grader to perfect the taste variants and the flavour profiles were selected by the Graham family, a spokeswoman added.
The Cheddars are available in 200g and 350g re-sealable packs.
