Preserves brand Granny Cool has secured listings in 339 Sainsbury’s stores, 16 months after appearing on Dragons’ Den to be told it would never go national.
Two marmalade flavours, made from ’traditional’ recipes, will be available from June: Three Fruit and Orange & Lemon With Ginger (rsp: £2.90/340g).
The brand appeared as Granny Marmalade on Dragons’ Den in February 2015, when Peter Jones praised the “fantastic product” but added “this is will only ever be regional”.
A name change soon followed to “use what we had learnt”, according to founder Nikki Frith, who said that the new listings showed “Dragons don’t know everything”.
“We are super excited and extremely proud to be launching nationally with Sainsbury’s. We’ve beaten the odds on achieving this and hope this is only the start of our journey,” she added.
