Katy Perry’s costume designer has created two dresses made entirely out of salad ingredients to promote Greggs’ new summer menu.
Four designers spent about 200 hours building the costumes using ingredients from the menu including tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, jalapeño peppers and onions.
Some 5,000 lettuce leaves, 100 limes, 150 chillies, 80 bell peppers, and 50 bulbs of garlic were also used to make Kate Tabor’s couture-inspired dresses.
Models unveiled the costumes this week at London fashion hotspots Carnaby Street and Regent Street to celebrate Greggs’ summer salad launch.
The new low-calorie range includes a coconut, lime & chilli chicken salad; falafel, harissa, roast vegetable & grains salad; and cheese, tomato & basil pasta salad.
Greggs created the meals following research that showed 61% of Brits are more health conscious than they were five years ago.
All meals have no more than 400 calories and meet green and amber on the FSA traffic light system for fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar.
“More and more people are looking for a healthier option for their on-the-go food,” said a Greggs spokesman.
“We wanted to celebrate our new salads with something fun and a little different that everyone could enjoy - and we can all appreciate a bit of ‘salad dressing’”
Greggs said its low-calorie menu now accounted for more than 10% of its total sales.
The new summer salad range is available in all of Greggs’ 1,800 stores in Britain.
