Greggs steak bakes recall

Greggs has issued a point of sale notice to display to customers

Greggs has recalled its 2-pack Steak Bakes from Iceland supermarkets due to undeclared sulphites.

The chain said some of the Steak Bake packs contain Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts products which were incorrectly packaged as Steak Bake.

The Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts contain sulphites.

The sulphite allergen is not declared on the label, making it a “risk for customers with sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites”, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned.

Greggs has issued a point of sale notice to display to customers warning them about the contamination, and encouraging them to return the products to their local Iceland “for a full refund”.

The chain’s recall applies to packs of two frozen steak bakes sold exclusively in Iceland, displaying a best before date of 15 May 2025.

No other products, date codes or batches are believed to have been affected.

Sulphites are a rare allergen which can cause respiratory issues and allergic reactions, especially in people sensitive to sulphur dioxide-treated products.

They are used as a preservative and antioxidant to maintain food colour and extend shelf life of packaged products.
