Asda offered the cheapest basket this week and the only one to come in under £60. It also had the greatest number of exclusively cheapest items (11) nine more than the nearest rivals. Five Rollback deals including Quality Street and the mushrooms reduced its basket by 61p compared with last week.
Tesco climbed one place to second, helped by price promotions making its bacon joint and Blossom Hill white zinfandel the cheapest. It had nine items on promotion and its basket was 27p cheaper than last week.
Sainsbury's dropped one place to third this week and was the only retailer not to reduce any prices. A half-price deal on Quorn mince (83p) and 20% off quilted Velvet (£1.83) meant it had two exclusively cheapest items.
The Birds Eye Omega 3 fish fingers (£2.97) and free-range eggs (£1.37) were cheapest at Morrisons but the retailer also made the greatest number of price hikes (6). Last week's winner, Morrisons, fell three places to come fourth.
Waitrose came bottom of the table again with a basket that cost £8.53 more than Asda's. Its bacon joint was £2.50 more expensive than its nearest rival's but a price cut on the own-label mayonnaise (39p) meant it did manage to offer one exclusively cheapest item.
