Asda is back on top this week with nine cheapest items including the cottage cheese (£1), Parma ham (£1.18) and king prawns (£1.67). Despite making the biggest base price increase adding £1.50 to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream this was still the cheapest offered, at £3.97.
Just 24p pricier than Asda, Tesco was second. A promotion on pork chops reduced them by £1.23, making them the cheapest, at £4.75/kg. The basil (66p), iceberg lettuce (40p) and steak pie (£2.69) were also the cheapest.
Morrisons climbed one place and offered the cheapest macaroni (59p), naan (50p) and Toblerone (73p), which was 37p cheaper than last week. The retailer made the most price hikes but also made three non-promotional base price cuts and offered as many promotions as Tesco (9).
Sainsbury's dropped to fourth position, though its basket was only 24p pricier than Morrisons. It offered the cheapest Quavers and, following a 28p price drop to 50p, the lowest-priced cucumber. However, the end of a promotion added 45p to the pain au chocolat.
Waitrose's basket would have cost a shopper £11.46 more than the same goods at Asda. It did provide the cheapest Stella 4% (£2.94), which was on a continuing promotion, but offered the fewest promotions overall (3).
