Asda reclaimed the Star Order crown thanks to strong availability, great service and a low minimum order and delivery charge.
The retailer netted the Star Order award in three out of the four 2008 Grocer 33 Online Surveys. "Three out of four wins is an unbelievable achievement and pays testimony to the hard work of all our colleagues," said Asda head of home delivery Richard Ramsden. "That we've achieved this while maintaining market-leading growth of 70% year-on-year is great - we're now the number two retailer for online groceries in the UK."
Our shopper found using the Asda website simple and straightforward. She was impressed with the option that enabled her to save her list and reuse an old one, found the search bar was easy to use and the organisation of the site helpful.
The minimum spend of £25 was also well-received, especially as other retailers had minimum spends as high as £50 to place an order. The driver arrived on time at 10.15am and asked where our shopper wanted the items. He then carried all the shopping into her flat and made polite conversation. As it was our shopper's first online shop from Asda, he also explained the online receipt and how substitutions worked should they be needed for future orders. Our customer was disappointed by the 11 bags used for the shop, but the driver said they could be returned next time an order was made.
Our shopper also appreciated money-off vouchers attached to her delivery note, in her case offering money off Birds Eye Chicken Dippers and a range of Christmas gifts.
The delivery note vouchers were introduced since the previous Grocer 33 Online, following a trial earlier in the year. "They seem to have been getting good feedback," Ramsden added.
