Winner: Asda - Delivery as a Service
Asda upped its delivery game with the launch of its ‘Delivery as a Service’ initative in March 2022. The initial trial last summer offered a full range of 30,000 products for delivery in as little as one hour to customers who lived within a three miles of the three trial sites.
Once shoppers chose their slot – offered between one and four hours of ordering – they could track the progress of their order in real time online.
Delivering such a fast service required Asda to think carefully about the logistics. It made use of a third-party courier to deliver the orders, while baskets were picked by Asda personal shoppers in store. The supermarket used a ‘Just In time’ pick model and developed of a fully integrated dispatcher/courier platform to make everything ran smoothly.
The trial “exceeded expectations”, according to Asda, and it’s now available in 302 stores.
Shortlisted:
- Co-op - Rise of Rapid Kerb to Kitchen Grocery Deliveries
- Criteo & PepsiCo - Walking the Retail Media Talk
- Iceland Foods – Iceland App Digitising Loyalty
- Wiltshire Farm Foods – Wiltshire Farm Foods App
The service gives customers access to ASDA’s full online range of more than 30,000 grocery products for delivery in as little as one hour, if they live within a three-mile radius of an Express Delivery store.
After a trial in summer last year, it's been rolled out to 140 stores, with more planned. Behind the scenes a 'Just In time' pick model and development of a fully integrated dispatcher/courier platform makes everything run smoothly.
