Grupo Bimbo has revealed plans to bring a swathe of global bakery brands to the UK.
The “ambitious expansion strategy” will see Grupo Bimbo launch a “wide spectrum” of brands from its portfolio of baked goods over the next five years.
The first of these is Sanissimo, a Mexican-style, oven-baked corn cracker brand that Grupo Bimbo said would add the “authentic taste of Mexico to the taste-led healthy snacking market”.
The brand has debuted in Sainsbury’s with two ‘Salmas’ crackers – Original and Chia & Flax – which are made with “no more than four” natural ingredients as well as being low-fat, low-calorie, vegan and gluten-free (rsp: £1.59/144g).
They were made using ancient grains and “char-baked over an open flame” to ensure a “crunchy texture and locked-in natural flavour”, said Grupo Bimbo.
Grupo Bimbo head of marketing Kate Haskins said shoppers were “demanding more from the sector” and “increasingly check ingredients lists in search of products that come with a greater degree of flavour authenticity and a genuine point of difference”.
“We are delivering our very own fresh take on that with Salmas,” she added.
