Confectionery wholesaler Hancocks will open its first compact-style depot in Leeds in March.
The 7,500 sq ft cash & carry will begin trading on 24 March, and stock an extensive pick n’ mix offer, exclusive ranges and selected confectionery brands and drink.
The smaller format, located next to Leeds United football ground, was chosen to give local independent retailers easy access to a comprehensive range of confectionery, although main branded items will have to be bought from Hancocks’ Bradford depot.
“We are keen to start filling in the gaps around the UK so that we can serve more independent retailers locally with a decent range of confectionery,” Mark Watson, Hancocks CEO said.
“Knowing that many of our customers travel to us particularly for pick n’ mix sweets and our many exclusive and seasonal ranges, we saw the opportunity to test a smaller format Hancocks that could offer this for a locality, allowing us to open up in areas that might not be able to support a full size depot.”
The latest cash & carry site forms part of a wider growth programme for the 50-year-old company, which was involved in a management buy-out last November.
In 2012, Hancocks turned over £109m - £9m higher than in 2011.
