Noble Foods' The Happy Egg Co is launching a new line of supersize free-range eggs, aimed at consumers who need larger eggs for home baking.
A pack of six Biggies will be sold for £2.09 a 31p premium over six large eggs. Boxes will predominantly contain extra-large eggs weighing more than 73g. However, Noble Foods said it could not guarantee they would all be above this weight and that boxes might include some from the upper end of the 63g and 72g range.
The supersize eggs will launch initially in Tesco stores, with listings in other mults to follow shortly.
Extra-large eggs occur naturally and have to date been sold as liquid egg, but the company wanted to offer shoppers the choice to shop specifically for such eggs, said head of brands Rob Newell. "With the resurgence of baking, larger eggs are in demand more than ever," he said.
