Shop Scan Save is gearing up for another re-launch - and hoping the popularity of smartphones will make it third time lucky.
The mobile-based loyalty scheme for c-stores was originally launched in 2005 and revamped in 2007. The latest smartphone version is undergoing testing across 23,000 stores equipped with PayPoint terminals.
Developers Mobilize (previously The Light Agency) said the new version offered a “far richer experience” and would be ready for a full launch in two months.
Shoppers who download the app will receive money-off promos that can be redeemed at PayPoint-equipped stores including The Co-op and Costcutter shops. They are also assigned a unique ID, meaning they can redeem multiple offers in one go through a patented “single-scan solution”.
Mobilize said offers would become more personalised over time - something commercial director Claes Kockum suggested was essential to the success of the app.
“Personalisation is the future of promotion,” he said. “Consumers don’t like being bombarded with generic offers. Over time we can see what you have redeemed and begin to tailor the offer to suit you. And the companies we have partnered with can see exactly who is redeeming their offers in real time.”
Kockum added that the emergence of smartphones as a retail channel meant fmcg companies could see the potential of the service far more than in 2007 - and that they would be actively helping to drive awareness via social media. Shop Scan Save will also launch its own Facebook page.
The 40,000 users of the sms service will be sent details of the new app. Enhancements for the new version include a greater number of offers every week and a store finder that highlights participating stores.
