Premium honey brand Haughton Honey has beaten its £80,000 crowdfunding target after attracting a swarm of more than 200 investors.
The business plans to use the £112,870 raised on the Crowdcube platform to support the next stage in its growth, including targeting the supermarkets.
Haughton Honey sold 30% of the business in the six-week campaign to 211 investors.
“We’ve got high ambitions for Haughton Honey,” founder Crispin Reeves said. “Demand for pure, raw honey is growing in the UK and we feel there’s tremendous export potential, too.”
Since 2014, Cheshire-based Haughton has steadily expanded and began supplying Booths in April, as well as The Protein Works, a sports nutrition brand owned by Alliance Boots, which has just launched a co-branded Cashew Nut Butter Luxe product containing Haughton Honey.
The honey is also available via more than 80 regional sales outlets across the North West and Midlands.
Haughton plans to use the investment to recruit more bee farmers, expand markets and raise awareness of the brand, as well as securing more independent retailers and a second multiple listing, alongside Booths, by the end of 2016.
During 2015, Haughton Honey packed and sold more than 8,000kg of English honey and expects to more than double the figure this year.
