Andrew Hawes is to become MD of wine importer and distributor Mentzendorff. He will replace Bill Page who is due to hand over his executive responsibilities on March 1 when he becomes chairman.
Hawes is currently deputy MD, a job he took after a spell as sales director. He joined in 1996 from Champagne de Venoge and worked for Matthew Clark for eight years before that. He has 19 years’ experience in wines and spirits and will be looking to boost sales of wine brands including Bollinger Champagne and Taylor’s port.
Mentzendorff’s general sales manager Justin Liddle becomes sales director. He joined Mentzendorff in 1998 after working for Oddbins, Yapp Brothers and Michael Morgan.
Page, aged 59, joined Mentzendorff in 2001 from Ehrmanns where he had been MD from 1991. He said: “This was a tough decision as I have been hugely happy at Mentzendorff. We have a team which has achieved great things in re-positioning this business.”
