A product approval scheme logo developed by cholesterol charity Heart UK can now be used across the European Union.
Already in use in the UK. the logo has been trademarked across the EU to inform consumers the product they are choosing can be eaten as part of a low saturated fat and heart-healthy diet.
Food products that pass tests overseen by the charity’s product approval working group – made up of experts in areas including nutrition, lipids and the food industry – can use the logo in marketing activities.
“Products undergo rigorous testing to ensure that they meet the health claims that they promote and we are proud that the companies we work with care so much about ensuring their products provide tangible health benefits,” said Heart UK dietician Linda Main.
Shredded Wheat, Mornflake oat cereals and Dole porridge pots are among the foods using the logo on packaging.
