Heineken has pledged to tackle mental health stigma in the workplace by signing a public commitment to promoting the “physical, social and mental wellbeing” of its employees.
The brewer has trained 30 “mental health champions” to provide “mental health first aid” across six of its UK sites in association with mental health campaign Time to Change.
“Many leading employers have found that making a strategic commitment to the mental wellbeing of their workforce not only benefits their staff but also their bottom line, improving productivity and staff retention,” said Time to Change director Sue Baker. “With one in six British workers experiencing mental illness, it’s time for businesses to make a change and start creating more mentally healthy workplaces.”
Heineken is set to introduce a number of initiatives it said would have a “huge bearing” on employees’ mental health, such as yoga classes, walking clubs and five-a-side football. It will sponsor a Race to the Tower double marathon event in June, working in partnership with fellow mental health charity Mind.
