Heinz is launching what it claims is the first range of baby meals in pouches that have been fortified with added vitamins and minerals.
The new Heinz Pouches, roll out in January and come in two ranges, smooth-textured lines for babies from four months old, and three mashed-texture meals for seven-months and over.
The company said the range had been designed to develop babies’ taste buds and aid mums with the weaning process. The products contain no added sugar, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.
The stage 1 smooth range comes in seven variations (rsp: 89p for 100g) - four fruit flavours that provide 60% of baby’s daily vitamin C intake and three savoury flavours that contain iron. The stage 2 pouches come in Sunday chicken dinner; apple & pork casserole; and sweet potato, chicken & veggies flavours (rsp: £1.19/130g).
Research had shown there was demand for a range of products specially developed to help babies develop their eating skills, said Christina Honigfort, Heinz marketing manager for infant feeding.
Since Ella’s Kitchen first introduced infant feeding pouches into the category in 2006, the packaging format has prospered at the expense of traditional glass jars, growing 21.3% in the year to September 2012 .
