Shoppers will be able to choose an ethical option in the drinks chiller with the launch of Herbert's Iced Coffee.
The product has an eight-month shelf life and is available in 270ml bottles in latte and mocha varieties (rsp: £1.20). Ingredients are sourced from co-operative farming communities in sub-Saharan Africa and the product is made with real coffee rather than extracts.
Manufacturer Metro Drinks claims the newcomer is the UK's first Fairtrade iced coffee. MD Paul Bendit said consumers were thinking more ethically.
"Fairtrade coffee is well-established in retailers' fixtures, so a ready-to-drink iced coffee is an exciting extension to the overall Fairtrade offering," he added. "The recent growth in coffee-bar culture means people are familiar with iced coffee."
