Plant-based startup Heura has unveiled two fish alternatives to coincide with Veganuary.
F’sh Fillet features a “Mediterranean-style batter with a juicy texture”, while “crunchy” F’sh Fingers are billed as “perfect for any sharing occasion”.
Comprising soy protein concentrate, rapeseed oil and rice flakes, the innovations promise to have around 70% less climate impact than fish.
They contain 1.4g satfat and 13g protein per 100g, providing 40mg of omega-3 per serving.
The NPD respresented Heura’s latest step towards ambition “creating a net positive food system by accelerating the transition to plant-based protein and offering sought-after foods with a significantly lower CO2 impact that enables a more just food system” said CEO & co-founder Marc Coloma.
F’sh Fillet and F’sh Finger have rolled into major retailers in Spain (rsp: €4.99/160g-180g) and Switzerland, with a UK launch planned for later this year.
It comes after Heura raised €20m (£17.4m) as part of a Series B round in October to continue its rapid growth across Europe.
Last month, the Barcelona brand secured a listing with Waitrose for Mediterranean Chick’n Pieces, Chorizo Burger and Spanish Chorizo Sausage.
It isn’t the only meat alternative maker to debut products for Veganuary 2023. Squeaky Bean has launched a plant-based chorizo and a duo of chicken-style pieces for cooking, while Better Nature last month revamped its marinated tempeh range.
Retailers, however, are leading the NPD charge with own label options. Asda alone has introduced two dedicated vegan ranges, comprising 86 new plant-based products.
