Hippeas has teamed up with plant-based brand This to launch a limited-edition vegan smoky bacon flavour of its chickpea puff snacks.
The NPD uses the same flavouring as This plant-based ‘bacon’ and lardons.
Each 22g pack weighs in at 87 calories and provides 3.7g of plant-based protein; the snacks are also HFSS compliant.
They will roll into Waitrose and Hippeas’ webstore this week (rsp: £1/22g).
The launch marks the first time This has entered ambient snacking and the first time Hippeas has partnered with a fresh food brand.
The collaboration was intended to “provide increasingly health-conscious consumers with a delicious, compromise-free plant-based snacking option”.
Hippeas CEO Paul Nardone said he was “delighted to be launching this limited-time-only partnership with the team at This”.
“As two of the UK’s leading plant-based food brands it made perfect sense for us to collaborate on our This Isn’t Smoky Bacon’ flavour.”
The NPD delivered against “what we know consumers are looking for: maximised flavour and texture, alongside revolutionised nutrition to deliver better-for-you snacks,” Nardone added.
This co-founder Andy Shovel said: “The assignment was simple to comprehend but hard to execute”, adding that “the legends at Hippeas” deserved kudos for “smashing it”.
