Magners GB managing director John Holberry has quit after just a year with the company – blaming a lack of career opportunities following the installation of a new management team.
Holberry joined Magners last March from Coors Brewers, where he led sales operations. He will leave the cider maker in August following a handover period.
The departure comes after parent company C&C Group last year appointed former Scottish & Newcastle UK boss John Dunsmore as its new chief executive. Dunsmore has since implemented a restructuring of the C&C management team, recruiting a number of former S&N executives to senior positions.
“'I have enjoyed working in C&C and building the Magners GB team over the last year,” Holberry said. “However, the appointment of the new management team, headed by John Dunsmore, reduces the opportunities for me to develop my career.
“I will be working with John over the coming months to ensure a successful transition and wish him and all the C&C team every success in the future.”
UK sales of Magners have suffered in recent years thanks to poor summers and intense competition from rivals in the cider category.
