Holland & Barrett is taking on Huel with a line of vegan meal replacement shakes.
Called Nu26, the range has debuted with three flavours: Chocolate, Raspberry and Vanilla (rsp: £16/1kg). A 1kg pack provides 10 ‘meals’.
The shakes – which were formulated with the help of Holland & Barrett’s nutrition experts – each contained one-third of the daily recommended 26 essential vitamins and minerals, it said.
They contain gluten-free oat flour, pea protein isolate, sunflower oil powder and rice protein.
Each was high in fibre and protein, and provided 100% of the essential B vitamins and 10 billion live friendly bacteria to support gut health, the retailer added.
All three flavours – along with a reusable shaker, which was “perfect for making and sipping Nu26 shakes on the go” (rsp: £8) – have rolled into the retailer.
It comes after meal replacement brand Huel last year launched what it claimed was the world’s first nutritionally complete vegan protein powder.
Made using a blend of three plant-based protein sources – hemp, faba and pea – the product contained all 26 essential vitamins and minerals and more essential amino acids per gram of protein than whey, said Huel.
