Heinz is planning a host of NPD and marketing activity for HP Foods' brands after this week receiving full clearance from the Competition Commission for its £470m acquisition of HP Foods.

Heinz said that following clearance for the deal, which includes brands such as Lea & Perrins and HP Sauce, it would move straight ahead with the full integration of HP Foods.

It added that its research and brand development teams would collaborate to build a product pipeline looking at areas such as new flavours and improved packaging.

Michael Mullen, Heinz director of corporate affairs, said that details of its plans could not be discussed at this stage but added: "We will be working on new marketing activity, new initiatives and new programmes."

Bill Johnson, chairman, president and CEO of Heinz, said: "With the addition of HP and Lea & Perrins, along with Amoy in Europe, Heinz boosts its global leadership in ketchup and sauces."

Heinz completed its acquisition of HP Foods in August 2005 and received provisional clearance from the Competition Commission in February this year.
