Hubbub founder Marisa Leaf urged customers to use ’like-minded operator’ Market Porter

Collapsed online delivery service Hubbub is urging its 40,000 former customers to back Market Porter, which it claimed was a like-minded operator.

London-only service Hubbub was forced to close its doors earlier this month after nine years of trading. It offered a range of more than 10,000 products from more than independent 100 shops, and blamed difficulties competing against larger online companies for its closure.

It has sent out an email to customers urging them to back Market Porter, a national online delivery service of foods from independent butchers and farmers.

Hubbub founder and former human rights barrister Marisa Leaf said Market Porter would be able to reach a wider audience and “continue the fight against mediocre, mass-produced food”.

“We didn’t succeed in raising enough funding to take Hubbub outside London, which limited our ability to attract enough customers to be sustainable,” added Leaf.

Launched in 2014, Market Porter currently delivers to 20,000 customers across the UK, with produce sourced directly from some 40 independent suppliers.

“We’ve always admired their ethos and ambition to revolutionise the way we shop with independent producers,” said Market Porter founder and CEO Stefan Porter.

“We’re sad to lose a trailblazer and ally but hope that, with our UK-wide model, we can continue the brilliant work they started.”
