Michael Hughes has been appointed operations director of Tesco-owned Dobbies Garden Centre.

Hughes, who was placed by headhunters Anthony Gregg Partnership, was most recently general manager for central operations at Coles in Australia, but has spent the majority of his career in operations roles at Asda.

Before Coles, he was managing director of City FM, where he was responsible for facilities management, cleaning services and utilities budget across 380 Asda stores.

Tesco is planning to grow Dobbies’ portfolio to 100 stores by 2020.
