Hugo Mahoney has been appointed Brakes UK CEO replacing Ton Christiaanse who stepped down last October after just nine months in the role.
Mahoney steps up from chief commercial officer, a position he took up 10 months ago.
His previous jobs included vice president sales - customers for life at accountancy systems provider Sage, and director of business development, UK & Europe at engineering consultancy Atkins.
He also held roles at LexisNexis in New Zealand and the UK, Cable & Wireless Communications and Coca-Cola Enterprises.
Mahoney steps into shoes temporarily worn by the senior vice-president of Brakes parent company Sysco, Ajoy Karna, who took on the extra responsibility while it searched for Christiaanse’s successor.
Karna said Mahoney had demonstrated the leadership qualities required to lead the business “on the next step of its journey”, since arriving at the delivered foodservice wholesaler.
His broad range of experience gives us a different perspective on our opportunities as well as our challenges and both we, and our customers, are already seeing the benefits of this.”
Mahoney said: “Brakes is a great business and with the power of Sysco behind us, the investment that has been made over the past few years sets us in very good stead to continue building a great future.
“We fully expect to enhance our position as the UK’s leading delivered wholesaler and our customers’ most valued and trusted business partner.”
