Hunt’s Food Group has opened a new 4,000 sq ft warehouse at its head office in Sherborne.
The new warehouse, which is capable of holding 336 pallets, will provide the company with a significant increase in ambient storage capacity.
The business said that the new facility was necessary to increase its holding of non-food lines such as packaging, disposables and chemicals.
The new warehouse is in addition to Hunt’s two sites at Stalbridge and Hazelbury Bryan, which hold 4,000 pallets of frozen stock between them.
Hunt’s increased its stock holding by around 50% during the pandemic after struggling to keep up with demand after issues with road haulage due to a shortage of drivers, and imported products being stuck at ports.
It comes as the business recently reduced its carbon footprint by 76% after switching to HVO biodiesel to power its trucks.
“Our strategy has been to increase our stock holding to ensure we don’t let our customers down and service levels suffer,” said Hunt’s purchasing director Jason McGhee.
“Investing back into the business in stock and warehousing space supports one of our core values of being trustworthy and dependable.”
