Landmark Wholesale has quashed rumours that Hyperama Cash & Carry is to be sold to Bestway.

Rumours have been circulating that Bestway could buy the Landmark Wholesale member after it confirmed it was still on the acquisition trail following its purchase of CJ Lang’s Martex Cash & Carry in November.

However, MD Marcus Singh said that Hyperama, which recorded a turnover of £109m in its latest set of accounts and operates three depots in Birming­ham, Nottingham and Peterborough, was not for sale. “This is a third-generation family-owned and run business and we intend to keep it that way,” he said. “We have a new, young management team and our ambitious plans will keep us in growth. We are looking for new opportunities for expansion including the addition of another Hyperama depot.”

Meanwhile, Landmark Wholesale has recruited Hi-Line Wines to its buying group. The Deptford, South East London, cash & carry operator plans to add grocery items to its range of alcohol, tobacco, confectionery and soft drinks. Hi-Line mainly supplies convenience stores and forecourt retailers and also runs a delivered wholesale service.

“We are pleased to take on new members who share our vision,” said Landmark Wholesale MD Martin Williams. “Since Hi-Line was bought by Sharmmila Jeganmogan in 2009, they have made expansion plans that include a new depot in 2011.”

Landmark Wholesale reported that sales were up 13% during November with year-to-date sales up by 10.4%. Sales of alcohol were up 18.1% month-on-month.
