Ian Schofield has rejoined Iceland, 20 years after leaving the frozen food discounter.
Schofield, who established Iceland’s own label team in 1984 before leaving in 1993, returned this week as own label and packaging manager. In his new role, he will be responsible for the retailer’s whole own label launch process, including innovation and the packaging technology team.
After quitting Iceland, Schofield worked in the print industry, focusing on packaging development, before switching to Sun Branding Solutions, a brand and packaging services company, as sales and marketing director, supplying all the major retailers. In this role, he continued to work for Iceland’s senior executives including founder and CEO Malcolm Walker. He is also a fellow of the Packaging Society and a member of the Marketing Society.
He rejoined Iceland because “one thing led to another”.
I have Iceland in my blood from the early days and I am really looking forward to driving growth and innovation in all our markets.”
Iceland buying director Nigel Broadhurst said: “Ian’s infectious enthusiasm and wealth of experience will make a difference. I am really happy to have him on board.”
Schofield is not the only member of staff to return to Iceland. Former Aldi UK MD Paul Foley, who left Iceland for Aldi in 1989, was named international business director in September last year, responsible for franchising, overseas store openings and export.
