Lovers of liquor can now eat themselves merry, as two manufacturers bring alcoholic ice cream to the retail sector.
The Cream Breeze brand from Purbeck Ice Cream in Rum and Blackcurrant and Gin and Orange variants has already made its debut on the shelves of selected Somerfield stores.
Meanwhile, Bedford company Dreams, which has been producing vodka-based ice creams for clubs, pubs and leisure outlets for more than a year, is now making the range available to independent grocery outlets.
In the on trade, the five Dreams flavours Irish, Original, Pineapple, Mint and Cranberry carry risqué cocktail-style names such as Steamy Dreams, but will go under the company's eponymous branding for retail.
Retailers must have a licence to sell the products though, as they are 4% proof. "Four of the 120ml Dreams pots or one of the 500ml size would put anyone over the limit." said md David Buck.
The Dreams products have an rsp of £2 for 120ml and £3.99 for 500ml, while Cream Breeze is £1.10 for 125ml and £3.09 for 500m.
