Sir; I write in response to last week's comment piece by Salmin Amin, Pepsico UK President, in which he states that Guideline Daily Amount figures were developed in partnership with government.
I would like to clarify that the current GDA figures were developed by IGD, with input from their membership of food manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
The FSA was not a partner in this activity and GDAs should not be seen as official recommended government figures.
We do, however, fully recognise from our research that some consumers find GDA information useful.
But the key factor in helping people make healthier choices was the use of traffic light colours.
