Spanish food wholesaler Brindisa has been forced to close one of its two shops in London due to rising rents and the weak pound, which has pushed up the cost of importing.
The shop in Clerkenwell sold Spanish meats, cheeses and deli products.
"We are very sad to have had to close our beautiful shop," said marketing manager Claire Roff. "The new cost of buying from Spain combined with the downturn in spending left us little choice."
The company also has a shop in London's Borough Market and has three tapas restaurants in the city, in addition to its wholesale business. "The Brindisa shop at Borough is vibrant with activity and our warehouse is ticking along very well," said Roff. "Equally the three Brindisa tapas kitchen sites are thriving."
The company is due to relaunch its website in April, with new products and wider product information becoming available.
