Asda opens hubs

Asda is to open five new local sourcing hubs before the end of the year in Nottingham, Leicestershire, West Midlands, Cornwall and Yorkshire. These will reduce food miles by 1.6 million, the company said.

Energy efficiency

Sainsbury’s said a 530,000 sq ft distribution centre opening in Northampton in September will be the most energy- efficient in the UK. It will use half the energy of similar buildings and cut water use 50% by recycling rainwater.

Tesco ‘most trusted’

Tesco has been voted Britain’s Most Trusted Food Retailer by Reader’s Digest subscribers for the seventh consecutive year. Tesco received 38% of the 1,900 votes. Sainsbury’s and Asda tied in second with 16%.
