Raising the standard
The standards behind British Lion eggs have been upgraded to improve salmonella controls and traceability. From next month the www.britegg.co.uk website will allow consumers to trace eggs back to the farm they came from.
Sainsbury's premium
Sainsbury's will pay the 320 dairy farmer members of its dairy development group a premium of 1.5ppl for their milk from October. At current milk prices, that equates to around 26.5ppl.
Arla hit by shortage
Arla Foods has cut cheese output by 6,200 tonnes due to milk shortages in Denmark and Sweden. The co-op said there would be no impact on UK supplies of Rosenborg and Apetina cheeses.
