Dutch and Danish pork set for price hike

Dutch and Danish pork processors are warning of impending price increases as worldwide demand overtakes raw material supply availability. "Pig costs have been kept stable during the time chicken and beef prices have rocketed, but things are about to change," said one Dutch processor. Hot dogs, which include chicken meat, have already gone up in price by 15% and are likely to rise even higher in a couple of months. Sterling's weakness against the euro accounts for a 15% additional cost compared with this time last year. Ham prices will be increased to cover both raw material and exchange costs, adding 30p to a 454g can. Importers could not predict the timing of the rise but trade sources confirmed customers were being advised of the change.
