The percentage of British bacon and ham sold by the mults rose by 3% and 9% respectively from May to July, bolstered by increases in Asda.
British bacon made up 50% of all bacon sold in the UK’s 11 largest retailers, according to the AHDB’s latest Pork Watch survey, while British ham facings rose to 69%.
Asda sold 70% more British ham than the same period last year, taking total British facings to 46%. Its British bacon facings grew by 5% to 30%. This follows criticism by the National Pig Association over Asda’s “shocking” performance in sourcing UK pork products. However, Asda and Tesco continued to display the lowest proportion of British pork overall.
