The big four retailers plus Somerfield and the Co-op have been shortlisted in the Retailer of the Year category in this year’s British Turkey Awards.
A record 145 entries were received for the 10 categories in the awards scheme, which this year includes new prizes for best BBQ product and best added value product. Some 35 products and retailer ranges have made it on to the shortlist.
Entries were assessed by a panel of independent judges, including Richard Clarke, The Grocer’s Market Edge editor.
Judges’ chairman Mitzie Wilson, of food magazine Delicious, said: “We were impressed by the innovation in retailer ranges. Many retailers are displaying nutritional information on pack and using recipes, serving suggestions and the Quality British Turkey logo to boost sales.”
Last year’s top award went to Morrisons for the second year in succession.
This year’s winners will be announced at a gala dinner in London on September 22.
