The Co-operative Group will spend £8.3m on a revamp of its EPoS system following its merger with United Co-operatives.
Some 550 Co-op food stores will be fitted with the InControl EPoS system, which is already used in 1,650 Co-op Group food stores. The former United Co-op estate currently operates five separate systems.Around 20 food stores will be upgraded a week, with completion expected later this year.
"This marks a key step in the process of integration of the societies and the 'one business in one year' goal said Mark Hale, Co-op Group director of information systems food retail.
